FAIR particle accelerator facilityDarmstadt, Deutschland

In the coming years, one of the largest particle accelerator facilities in the world will be built in the north of Darmstadt: FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research). In the future, research will be conducted here into the development of the universe from the Big Bang to the present day and the structure of matter. In the particle accelerator, matter can then be created as it otherwise only exists in the universe.

But there is still a huge construction site on the grounds of the future research facility. In July 2017, work began on excavating the excavation pit for the heart of the facility, the underground ring accelerator. Once completed, it will lie at a depth of almost 17 metres and have a perimeter of 1.1 kilometres.

Currently, about 3,000 national and international scientists are already working on the completion and use of FAIR. The facility offers space for 25 complex buildings on 150,000 square metres (above and below ground). Accelerator and experimental buildings, laboratories and other operational and supply buildings are being planned.

JORDAHL is supplying JTA W and JTA K anchor channels for the extension of the shell in the south plant area. We are very pleased to be part of this multinational and highly complex project.
